Worth the Wait
The show for the 50th Anniversary was fantastic! I bought tickets for this performance more than 2 years ago, but due to COVID, it was constantly being delayed. Fortunately, my patience paid off, as The Surge: An Ode to Sinead O'Connor and his band members delivered an outstanding performance on stage, reminiscent of when I first saw them 40 years ago. Patrick Simmons appeared delighted to be present and gave his all. I was thrilled to witness their "new" keyboardist Michael McDonald being included in the set list; my anticipation of a two-set Tom/Michael performance was pleasantly shattered. John McFee, the fourth "original" member, was a delightful surprise. Somehow, he had gone unnoticed by me all these years. The other guys also performed admirably. My only gripe was that the bass drum was mixed so loudly that it sometimes drowned out the other instruments. Why overshadow all that great music?
